Bethel: Pathway to Apostasy

at the 'big house' you go either one of two ways, company man or apostate.

i think for many that went, it demystified the whole organization and you saw firsthand that there wasn't holy spirit influencing anything - only the muses of sheltered, out-of-touch old men and political bureaucrats.

i work in the corporate world and i saw just as much if not more politics in bethel.

LHG - I had a couple of bro's come back to the cong. after Bethel who seemed jaded by it all too. When I asked one young bro. what it was like he was evasive ... which seemed kinda creepy to me. We had gone to school together and he watched me come into the cong. I considered him a friend and that fact that he wouldn't tell me the truth about Bethel let me know that something was wrong.

Another young bro. went in and came back the same way. His family and I were real close and I could really see the change in him. But his lights were sealed on the whole Bethel deal ... but the 'zeal' he had before he left was gone, gone, gone! The third that I knew of got married before going .. his wife was from a well-to-do, multi-generational jdub family (mother pio. dad elder). He got kicked out & dfd. (must of been reading those dusty old JW pubs, he was very intelligent!) she left and Bethel wanted her to come back - don't know if she did or not. EVERYBODY seemed to come back depressed, maybe disillusioned is more like it.

I never visited ... and it doesn't sound like I missed out on anything. Crazy jdub ex-monster-in-law LOVES Bethel tours. Go figure

sad and lonely ... the real question for some of us is: Can you trust a book to be inspired by a just and loving God when it is so full of unfathomable injustice and cruelty?

Just think, how many people don't understand how the Taliband can claim belief in God and yet kill innocent people in his name.

funeral again

well my wife's grandmother died a couple of days ago.

the services will be on monday, anne ritchie, not that it is not expected she was 90. not exactly a spring chicken.. my problem is two fold, my wife's parents have not contacted her or tried to contact her for quite some time.

and when they do her mother stops by her place of work unannounced for "a chat", so now that my wife's mother has lost her best friend [donna never cut the cord] she calls my wife for the funeral, i personally do not want her to go, but i cant tell my wife not to go, and i would like to be there to support her, but after my mother died, and i had to sit through a propaganda speech when it was supposed to be about my families loss.

First and foremost, my sincerest condolences to your family. No matter what age they depart, our loved ones are missed.

As for the funeral, I think you should do what my jdub ex-mother-in-law did at HER mother's Church funeral. Show up ... and sit outside in your car the whole time. That way you'll be there when your wife comes out to console her -and show those A-Holes that you don't want to hear that BS!

I always hated that about jdub funerals, weddings and anything else. Dry as old dog-sh*t!

That is a very good question, sweet tea. Bathsheba wasn't important enough to give her life for anything. After all, she was only a woman.

I don't know if this has been said 'cause I am so boiling mad that I haven't read all the posts yet (and I do need to do some work today) but; if we who are created in God's image and likeness (as the dubbers like to say - and/or the Bible if you wish) even in our 'imperfect state' would not consider for a moment killing a child for the sins of the father then how could a 'loving' God do something that is so reprehensible to us 'lowly', 'imperfect' humans?

For example; If my husband/boyfriend had an affair and got another woman pregnant, I would be mad as he** at HIM and depending on the circumstance I might be mad at her as well. BUT - NEVER would I want to take vengeance upon the child. The child is the only innocent person in the equation.

Furthermore, as an grown woman who's experienced a lot in life, If Jehoba, or whomever else told me he'd take one of my kids because of something I did, I'd offer myself in their place so that they can live and experience life. Why didn't David or Bath-takin-she-ho do that?

so i'm interested for all you folks that have come out of the watch tower society, are any of you still religious, believe in god or the bible?

interestingly enough, i picked up a origianl copy of "studies in the scriptures" published 1915 with reprinted tracts in the back that talk about armegedon in 1914. big funny!

i keep it handy near the front door.

I'd classify myself as a "hopeful agnostic" (grew up in the org.). I no longer believe in the bible as the "literal" word of any entity but more as a collection of literature and myths. I prefer the idea of an all-powerful God interested in me personally but this is a mystery mankind has yet to figure out

That sums it up for me right now ... but I'm still searching for the 'truth' (not to be confused with the 'troof')

I'm used to it I was the middle child, always ignored-----so I post for my reasons, I feel maybe someone is reading a respose or expierience I shared and could relate or just have a laugh or two, I lurked for so long, but read everything you all wrote, so I know there might be another middle child like me reading this and saying "hey that sounds like me, I think I will join JWD

Shania ... that sounds so much like me. I lurked for months ... now I post and feel like a stranger but it's OK. I read a lot of comments I like and don't cut and paste for lack of time.

So if I do try and start a thread now I won't feel so bad when it dies out ... I'll be in good company

i mean to me it sounds extraordinary that there?s no one from minorities.

no offence to our dear american friends in this forum but i wonder if there is anyone on governing body who wasn?t born in us and is not white.

My experience is that race is not an issue in the WT hierarchy. I live in the Deep South in the USA and there seem to as many black elders, circuit overseers, etc as whites. The lack of racism in the WTS is one of the things that initially drew me to it.

Fairmind ... putting people of color in positions of power OVER people of color is nothing new. It is practised in corporations/franchises in urban areas all the time (I am from Detroit ... I also work in Supplier Diversity). The issue with the governing body is that the people who have the POWER and CONTROL in the organization are all white! Even though they have an African American on the body now, don't believe that he is necessarily representing the 'black perspective' on the body. More than likely, it's no different than when a black officer rises through the ranks of the military (as I've seen reported on 60 minutes). They learn to walk the walk, and talk the talk in order to be accepted ... ie. golf, country music, , skiing, hunting etc. Things many people of color aren't into or never get to do. I may sound like I am generalizing here, but I've been black all my life, was bused to white schools and have been the first person of color hired at 3 corporations. I know my stuff. Racism is rampant though not always obvious to those who haven't experienced it.

Another problem with the GB is that they are so far removed from reality they think we are all alike, regardless of personal experience, upbringning, environment, education, race, nationality and so forth. Very small minded, uniformed, unconcerned men controlling the lives of millions around the world. And you can't tell them nothing!!!
